Boost Your Marketing Results Without Busting Your Budget

Need to boost your marketing results without boosting your spending? Here’s a few DIY marketing tips you can do yourself this week.

Ask for Another Date

Your marketing efforts are like a courtship. Your prospects are getting to know you before they decide to buy. They want to know if they can trust you, if your product or service really lives up to the hype, and if you’re going to solve the problems they’re dealing with. For B2B companies, that courtship takes time, and you need to nurture your leads through the sales funnel.

You have to ask for the next date. Otherwise, how will you end up at the altar?

Your calls to action (CTAs) are the way you ask for the next date. They tell your prospect what to do next:

  • Subscribe to the blog
  • Download the ebook
  • Request a demo
  • Talk to a sales consultant

Every piece of content should have a call to action. Every blog article, every video, every email, every tweet. Invite your audience to take the next logical step on their journey towards buying.

Here are 9 tips for taking your CTAs to the next level.

Crank Up Your Website Content

Optimizing your website content can help boost your organic search results and reach the right audience more effectively. A thorough website audit usually takes some technical expertise, but you can do a pretty basic DIY website audit that helps move the needle. Here’s a few things you can do this week:

  • Clean up any poorly written content and give it a good polish.
  • Make sure your website content is using the keywords you’ve identified. Don’t get spammy with them, but sprinkle them throughout your copy.
  • If you’re a brick-and-mortar business, optimize your site for location. Include maps, phone numbers, email addresses, and even photos and video tours. This stuff tells Google that you have helpful location-based information that people care about.
  • Check for the right CTAs on every page.

Give Video a Shot

Use videos to help your customers solve a problem. Keep the videos under 4 minutes — any longer and you’ll start losing them pretty quick. Post your videos on YouTube and share them on social media. Embed videos on your website. Share them in emails to customers and prospects.

The great thing about video is you can do it just about anywhere at anytime. All you need is your smartphone and a YouTube account!

Intimidated by the idea of creating a marketing video? Trust me, you’re not alone. I was literally paralyzed the first time I had to do a video. Check out this quick video I put together to help you get over the intimidation factor of creating marketing videos. And let me know what you think!

Blog!

I’m constantly surprised how many small businesses don’t have a blog. Blogging is one of the best ways to gain visibility, attract visitors, generate new leads, and keep them coming back.

Your blog is on a platform you own — your own website — which means you aren’t at the mercy of another company that can limit your visibility or drop you on a whim. Best yet, a blog doesn’t cost a dime.

Starting and maintaining a blog takes a commitment, but it’s a channel that yields results for years. Articles you publish today can bring in new leads for years, and even grow in their effectiveness over time. Plus, you can repurpose the content like crazy.

Be Social

“If you build it, they will come” is the stuff movies are made of. In real life, you’ve got to promote the content you create — whether it’s a blog article, a video, a case study, or some other lead magnet.

Choose the right platform wisely, though: don’t waste your time and energy on a site your audience doesn’t use. You should also do some quick research to figure out the best times to post your content. Be conversational, and encourage comments and questions.

And don’t forget those calls to action — even if you’re just inviting a response.

Don’t Forget Email

Email is another channel that you own. It’s also tremendously effective at nurturing leads and driving sales. In fact, email marketing brings in $38 for every $1 you spend. That’s a whopping 3,800% ROI!

Are you investing enough effort into your email marketing strategy?

Two quick rules for email marketing: provide real value, and be personal.
